Wayne joined the RAF aged 17, and served at bases in the UK, Cyprus, Germany and Saudi Arabia. On loan service to the Saudi Air Force, he served in Riyadh and was awarded the Gulf War Medal with clasp from the RAF as well as medals from the Saudi and Kuwaiti air forces. He was also awarded the Air Officer Commanding Commendation, and was honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list!
Since returning to civilian life in 1994, Wayne has worked in IT and auditing management for private sector companies, the National Audit Office Wales, the Audit Commission Wales, and the Older People’s Commission Wales (OPCW). He became certified as an Institute of Occupational Safety and Health manager, responsible for ensuring a safe working environment at the OPCW. This gave him the bug for data protection, as he could see “the impact that poor data management and data breaches had on the older, vulnerable members of society in Wales”.
Prior to joining Connect Assist, he worked in compliance for an IT company, supporting customers in data protection and GDPR issues, and taking them through certifications such as ISO 27001 in information security management, and Payment Card Industry compliance.
At Connect Assist, his focus is maintaining our certifications to ISO standards for Quality, Environmental and Information Security. He also conducts internal audits of systems and teams, “ensuring that we do what we say we do, and look for improvements where possible”. He carries out staff GDPR training and is Connect Assist’s point of contact for customers and the Information Commissioner on data protection issues.
He loves Connect Assist’s “ethos of helping people”, and is to be found outside work with his family and grandkids, or in his old motorhome.
